Sydney Picnic Spots For Valentine's Day 2024

Sometimes in life, it’s the littlest things that mean the most - and that’s a sentiment that could truly change your Valentine’s Day approach.

For a truly romantic day in Sydney this Valentine's Day, take your special someone for a dinner with a difference.

Forget old-fashioned ways of thinking about presents, a Valentine’s gift for her that’s really special is one where you’ve done all the thinking.

We’re talking about a beautiful, well-thought-out and intimate picnic for two. Think flowers, a well-prepared hamper replete with food, wine and chocolates to make your special someone feel really, truly special.

How to plan a romantic Valentine's Day picnic in Sydney

Picnics are fantastic because they allow you to really connect with your significant other and often feel much more private than a traditional dinner date in a busy restaurant.

The other great thing is they are really safe, and you can avoid contact with everyone else as needed.

When it comes to planning, think simple and light with the food - no one wants heavy or difficult things to eat when you’re sitting down. Don’t forget a nice bottle to share, and a couple of decorative pieces - although the skyline of Sydney works well.

You can trust Flowers For Everyone for your Valentine’s Day flower delivery Sydney service to add the magic! To add to the wow factor, surprise your loved one with some champagne and chocolate. Purchase our Bubbly Love, featuring 6 red roses and sparkling wine. For chocolate lovers, order our Love Truffles, featuring 12 red roses and delicious alcohol-flavoured chocolate truffles.

Just don’t forget that a Valentine’s Day picnic in Sydney wouldn’t be complete without flowers. Sydney flowers are our speciality.

Plan to head out in the late afternoon or early evening so you can stay and watch the sun go down - but remember you don’t want to be out too late as it can become chilly and the bugs difficult to deal with.

But where to go? In a city like Sydney - that just screams romance - there’s plenty of great places to picnic, whether you want somewhere quiet or one with breathtaking views of the harbour.

Check out our guide below for Sydney's top 5 romantic picnic spots:

Wendy Whiteley’s Secret Garden, Lavender Bay

It’s tranquil, near the harbour and nestled amongst nature - three things which are difficult to find when planning a Sydney picnic spot.

During the summer months, the garden may seem less and less secret, but there’s always plenty of space for everyone to find their own private, shaded area.

Think about how romantic it would be spending your Valentine’s Day afternoon sipping champagne and nibbling on cheese with the Harbour Bridge as your backdrop.

Collins Flat Beach, Manly

With scenic harbour views over The Heads, Collins Flat Beach is a calm, tranquil place to spend an afternoon swimming and enjoying a gourmet camper for two.

What’s particularly special about this place is that it feels a little bit like you’re a world away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It will honestly feel like you’ve almost taken a mini-Valentine’s Day getaway.

Although if you want to make it a really special day, you can end your romantic day out with a romantic evening out by staying at the restored heritage accommodation at nearby Q Station.

Clark Island, Sydney Harbour

Romance is best enjoyed when there’s only two of you to enjoy it, right? While it’s hard to truly find a private spot in Sydney Harbour, Clark Island is possibly the closest you can get, and it offers panoramic views of the entire harbour (pretty much).

As it’s only accessible by boat or kayak, you often don’t find large crowds milling around - even on Valentine’s Day.

Getting the flowers across Sydney Harbour without crushing them on the kayak might be a slightly more difficult task, however.

Observatory Hill Park, Millers Point

It’s an obvious choice when romance, Valentine’s Day and picnics are involved, but there’s a reason Observatory Hill is a popular choice for loved-up Sydneysiders.

Timing is everything here as the sunsets are truly magnificent. Not only is the sky lit up with fiery colours, watching it reflected on the waters is even more beautiful.

It will truly be an evening to remember.

America Bay

Some things have to be seen to be believed - and America Bay is one of those. It sits on top of a waterfall and offers views of a secluded cove.

All it takes to get there is an easy one kilometre walk - and when you get there - it’s simply a matter of laying out a comfy blanket and some pillows, laying out your hamper and delivering your flowers to your loved one.

Stay until the sun sets for a truly blissful Valentine’s Day.
