THE MCGRATH FOUNDATION MISSION

Money raised for the McGrath Foundation place specialist McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities right across Australia. These special nurses help to empower and comfort women experiencing breast cancer, as well as their entire family. Funds also contribute to making breast health understanding a priority.

START A CONVERSATION THAT MATTERS

The McGrath Foundation recently announced the launch of its “Moments with Mum” campaign, encouraging mothers and daughters around the country to start a conversation that matters about breast health.

Research conducted by the McGrath Foundation found that although half of Australian women believe that mums are best-placed to first raise breast health with their daughters, only 24% had had such a conversation with their mums.

And in only 12% of cases it was the first conversation about breast health.

The McGrath Foundation is encouraging people all over Australia to make a moment with Mum a moment that matters.

Country singer Catherine Britt shares her family’s experience with breast cancer in this touching video below.

How to Grow an Inspiring Business Idea into Australia’s No 1. Florist

With a floral empire encompassing most major cities in Australia, Owner & Managing Director of Flowers for Everyone Ryan Primrose has succeeded in turning an inspiring business idea from a dream into a reality.

When Ryan decided start his own business, he looked no further than his family (and, coincidentally, his last name) for inspiration.

The Early Days

As a young lad, Ryan used to help his mum in her florist shop. During these formative years, he gained valuable insight into the ins and outs of the florist industry.

One of Ryan’s early business ventures was a floral courier business. But the creative bug had bitten Mr Primrose from early on, leading him to a change of direction. Almost two decades on and Ryan has established what is now Sydney’s leading retail chain of florist stores.

Flowers for Everyone also boasts the best online florist shop in Australia. Customers can find fresh, quality floral designs at affordable prices on their inspiring online florist shop. The Flowers for Everyone team coordinate flower delivery to major cities throughout the country via a close knit group of affiliate florist professionals.

Sydney's Best Red Roses Online

The Driving Factors for Achieving the Sweet Smell of Success?

The inspired growth of Flowers for Everyone can be attributed to factors such as:

  • Initial ground work from a young age. Learning the ins and outs of running a small business;
  • An in-depth understanding of all aspects of the business; from supply to design to distribution to service delivery;
  • Supplying their retail stores with fresh flowers and foliage from the Primrose family flower farm;
  • Thinking creatively and try new things. Be a thought leader and put it into action.
  • And a true interest and passion for flowers of course!

The Most Inspiring Business Experience So Far?

Ryan lists his work for the ARIA awards and an Andrea Bocelli concert as the chief highlights in his career. As for inspiration, he finds it in the everyday running of his business… Working with beautiful product and talented staff. Ryan also gets his inspiration from international flower superstars he follows on social media.

Kangaroo Paw and Cataroos

Hold up your paw if you are a fan of Kangaroo Paw!

Kangaroo Paw is one of our top picks of the bunch when it comes to Australian native flowers. Here are some interesting facts you may not have know about this furry little flower…

  1. Kangaroo Paw is native to south-western Australia but has been developed as a cut-flower crop in the US, Japan and Israel. In Israel the plants are propagated from tissue culture imported from Australia.
  2. The flower has unique, bird-attracting appeal. A bit like Lynx for birds…
  3. Its flower resembles kangaroo paws. No, really.
  4. Most kangaroo paws are from the genus Anigozanthos. There are additional species in this genus that resemble kangaroo paws, but are actually cat paws. I wonder what would happen if you crossed a kangaroo paw with a cat paw? A cataroo paw maybe? Are we onto something here?

This is a Cat’s Paw…..

Cat's Paw

We love using kangaroo paws for their interesting flower shape, texture and height. The dwarf variety are also divine in posies too, including the pretty dusty pink kangaroo paw favoured by many an Australian bride.

Kangaroo paw colours are both vivid and bold or soft and subtle, including a magnificent two-toned bright red and green kangaroo paw, which also happens to be the emblem of Western Australia. You can get paws in a deep rich red, golden yellow, mustard yellow, soft pale green, an amazing black and lime green, burnt orange and a two tone orange and yellow.

Kangaroo paws make wonderfully long lasting cut flowers (as do native flowers in general) and work really well in modern corporate office installations and vase arrangements that need height and colour. Like these rather brilliant designs created just this week out of our head design studio…

Are you a Rainbow Roses Person?

Rainbow roses are one of our most popular selling flowers. So much so, we have dedicated an entire page on our website to these multi coloured beauties. And deservedly so.

Inspired by Willy Wonka and magical unicorns, these super fun and super bright rainbow roses are the bomb.

Dyed in a myriad of candy colours including blue, pink, purple and yellow, rainbow roses are perfect for people who have a cheeky disposition and a twinkle in their eye.

Rainbow Roses

They can be a little polarising amongst rose fans though. Some folks are purists, who believe a rose should remain as nature intended. And we TOTALLY get that.

BUT THERE IS A PLACE FOR RAINBOW ROSES IN THE WORLD.

Personality Profile: Rainbow Roses

Rainbow roses are for people who love to dream big dreams. Who laugh out loud at themselves, and don’t take life too seriously.

Rainbow roses are for people who love colour, and lots of it. They like to believe magic exists in the world.

Rainbow roses are for people who walk a little on the wild side. Don’t conform to set boundaries and social expectations. Are like a ray of sunshine when they enter a room.

ARE YOU A RAINBOW ROSE PERSON?

Rainbow Roses

Flowers for Everyone organise rainbow roses delivered throughout the Sydney Metro region. Our range includes 10, 20 and 30 stem bouquets, as well as long stem rainbow roses in our signature rose presentation boxes (exclusive to Flowers for Everyone). Of course we can also customise an order based on your needs and budget! Give us a call toll free on 1800 66 66 46 or email the team at sales@flowersforeveryone.com.au

Want to send rainbow roses outside the Sydney metro? Our consultants can check availability in the area you wish to deliver to, provide a quote, and even place an order on your behalf via our affiliate florist network. Give us a call on 1800 66 66 46 or email sales@flowersforeveryone.com.au!

Battle of the Florists: Starring Daffodils and Jonquils

Welcome to our latest Flowers for Everyone Battle of the Florists design challenge! The star of this month’s floral design challenge are daffodils and jonquils. We love these cheery little flowers filling our stores with their beauty and fragrance at the moment (insert happy dance)!

What better way to lift the spirits during winter than a bunch of happy yellow daffodils or creamy, perfumed jonquils?

VOTE FOR YOUR FAVOURITE

Our Balgowlah and Sydney CBD stores have gone up against each other this month, with one design condition – the daffodils or jonquils must be the star of their flower arrangement.

Have your say! VOTE for your favourite design here and go into the draw to win a $50 gift certificate with Flowers for Everyone (valid for Sydney metro deliveries or store pick only folks!).

SYDNEY CBD ENTRY

Our Sydney CBD team have decided to go for gold and cast daffodils as the solo star of their entry. This gorgeous glass terrarium-style flower arrangement is a super stylish way to showcase a ball of bright daffodils. Tucked in a bed of green moss, these daffodils are perfectly styled for a mantlepiece or hall entrance feature. We love this design not only for its simplicity, but for the added bonus of the vase, a beautiful addition to the home long after the daffodils have faded.

BALGOWLAH ENTRY

An entirely different take on the design theme, the Flowers for Everyone Balgowlah florist crew have chosen jonquils as their star. This beautiful winter flower arrangement uses poppies and freesias to offset their buttery jonquils, with a frill of nandina foliage adding extra depth and warmth. Love the white pitcher and flourish of hessian ribbon – its rustic charm is sure to win a few votes!

PREVIOUS BATTLE WINNER

Congratulations to the Flowers for Everyone Sydney CBD store who won the last battle against our Rouse Hill shop with this gorgeous arrangement! Will they be able to hold onto their title this month?

French provincial style tulip flower arrangement

ON DAFFODILS AND JONQUILS…

We dug around in the blog archives and found this beauty of an article, ‘The Naughty Narcisuss”. Did you know that Narcissus flowers provide the perfume world’s most ‘naughty notes’?

“Described as sultry, rich, and earthy, its fragrance is almost a little sharp, with a ‘green’ animalic scent and traces of hyacinth and jasmine. A bit naughty smelling, the narcissus is worn by those not afraid to wear a perfume that makes a statement…”

Not everyone is familiar with the term Narcisuss. So allow us to brush you up on the lingo. The cultivated narcissus come in three different varieties:

The Daffodil: Featuring four to six flattened, grass-like leaves and a flower stalk bearing asingle flower with a long, trumpet like ‘corona’.

The Jonquil: Featuring two to four narrow, cylindrical, rush-like leaves and a flower stalk bearing two to six relatively small flowers with short ‘coronas’.

The Narcissus: Similar to daffodils, but its flattened flower stalk bears four to eight flowers with short ‘coronas’.

We hope you are more enlightened by our Narcissus trivia!

Hydrangeas on Manly’s Shelly Beach

Flowers for Everyone recently held a ‘Battle of the Florists’ among two of its retail stores. Our Balgowlah team had a beach theme with the design condition of incorporating ornamental kale.

The girls went all out, photographing their stunning floral arrangement on Manly’s Shelly Beach. Plenty of passers by stopped to comment on how gorgeous it was, but one of our Facebook fans took it a step further, and, after seeing the photo on our page, painted the most amazing still life of the flowers.

Battle of the Florists
The original photo taken on Manly’s Shelly Beach, featuring ornamental kale, hydrangea, Scottish thistle, Eucalyptus foliage and monsteria leaves.

Curiousity piqued, we checked out Terri’s portfolio listed on Redbubble and were wowed. An accountant by day, Terri’s humble confession to art and textiles being a ‘sideline’ is understating her talent.

About Terri

How long have you been painting for?

I studied art at high school & part-time evening at TAFE (over 30 years ago, how embarrassing!). I started again 9 years ago after children etc & have really enjoyed being able to focus on painting again – mostly with pastels & oils.

How did you learn how to paint?

I started back at art learning pastel painting with Bernard Devaux at Forestville Community Art Centre.  Bernard is a wonderful artist & our group at Forestville was great.  Since moving to Bonny Hills on the Mid north coast in December 2013, I’ve been painting with the Hastings Valley Fine Art Assoc & enjoy plain air (outdoors) painting on a Monday morning the most. We have a gallery in Port Macquarie overlooking Oxley Beach where I exhibit.

What is your favourite flower?

Roses are my favourite flower – doesn’t matter what colour, although I do like the old fashioned roses that have a beautiful perfume the best.

How can people buy your art?

My original artworks are available from my home studio in Bonny Hills, as well as the Hastings Fine Art Gallery in Port Macquarie. Redbubble has a portfolio of paintings that are available as prints & other merchandise, with the descriptions indicating if the original has been sold.

Terri can be contacted via email at bonnyviewstudio@gmail.com if you are interested in her work.

We are so glad Terri spotted our photograph on Facebook and took inspiration from it to produce such a gorgeous painting. Thanks Terri for sharing!

Keep an eye out on our Facebook page for the next #battleoftheflorists competition announcement and the chance to win a $50 gift certificate with Flowers for Everyone!
